Navigating MLB Stadium Bag Policies: Your Guide to Game-Day Gear
Baseball season means a lot of ballpark trips, and every one of the 30 MLB clubs sets its own bag rules for its home stadium. There's no single league-wide standard the way there is in the NFL stadium bag policies, so it pays to check before you head to the gate.
What You Can Bring
- Clear Bags: Most MLB parks allow one clear plastic, vinyl, or PVC bag no larger than 12" x 6" x 12" (30.5 x 15.25 x 30.5 cm), including clear backpacks, fanny packs, and cinch bags within that size.
- Small Non-Clear Bags: Many stadiums also allow a small non-clear clutch or wristlet up to 4.5" x 6.5", usually alongside an approved clear bag.
- One-Gallon Freezer Bag: A standard one-gallon clear resealable bag is accepted at most parks as well.
Important Considerations
Outside of these categories, bags like backpacks, diaper bags, and camera bags are typically not permitted unless medically necessary. Even where the 12" x 6" x 12" clear-bag standard applies, it's worth double-checking the exact rules for the ballpark on your itinerary.
Stay Informed
Most MLB teams allow the standard clear stadium bag — with the Detroit Tigers, Atlanta Braves, and St. Louis Cardinals as the main exceptions. Ballpark security policies can be updated at any time, so confirm before you pack.
